Get ready! Soon there will be more than 50 new ways to express yourself… emoji-style.
Yes, based on the final list approved by the Unicode Consortium, a total of 230 individual emoji images (thanks to a new array of gender and skin tone options) will be hitting your devices this year.
The Unicode Consortium, which is responsible for selecting which emojis will feature on all platforms, has placed a clear focus on inclusivity with their latest list, introducing emojis for blind and deaf people, people in wheelchairs, and even those with prosthetic limbs.
There are also new emojis for guide and service dogs, and when choosing an emoji that features a couple, the user will now be able to select both race and gender.
Unicode will make the emojis available online on March 5, but each individual company (Facebook, Apple, Samsung and the rest of them) will choose when to release the emojis onto their unique devices and operating systems.
I personally think I’ll be making good use of the butter and waffles!
