Pixar’s charming animated short film ‘Bao’ is free to watch on YouTube for one week

Earlier this year, Pixar released an animated short film called Bao in tandem with the release of Incredibles 2.

Well, if you weren’t lucky enough to see it then, you can now view the charming film in full online, but only for one week!

So get to it.

Wonderfully, the film was directed by Domee Shi – the first female to ever direct a Pixar short (it’s just a little disappointing that it’s taken so long).

The clever film examines motherhood in a touching and nuanced way and sheds light on some of the emotionally challenging experiences a mother faces in rearing a child – and having to let him or her go one day.

This is all achieved in just under eight minutes, with no dialogue and a cute baby bao bun.

The film has struck a chord with many, including Oscar voters, and it was announced yesterday that it has just been shortlisted for Best Animated Short Film at the 2019 Academy Awards.

The beautifully animated story will hopefully help usher in a new wave of films that take a closer look at motherhood and the important role it plays in our society.
