China creates world’s first AI news anchor which looks terrifyingly real

Xinhua, China’s official state-run press agency, and Sogou, a Chinese search engine, has released what they claim to be the world’s first AI news anchor.

Two news anchors have been created, one for the Chinese-speaking audience and another for the English-speaking audience.

They released a chilling example of their new “news anchors” which looks surprisingly human as both have been modelled after an actual person from the company.

The news anchors have been put through machine learning to try and mimic the actions and gestures of real-life broadcasters and they did a pretty good job, except for the voice which still sounds synthetic.

But I’m sure as the technology gets more advanced, it will soon be harder to tell which one is real and which one is fake.
