“I’m really looking forward to throwing everything at this opportunity to finding the one,” Cummins said after landing the role on the popular TV series.

“The past 10 or so years has been on the road playing rugby or working on my projects, so I’m very excited to be part of a show that is centred around love and good times.”

Hilary Innes, Network Ten Executive Producer of The Bachelor Australia, said Cummins is the perfect addition to the show.

“We are delighted that Nick has agreed to be Australia’s next Bachelor.”

“He will bring a refreshing, honest and cheeky energy to season six. On top of all his incredible achievements, he is both loveable and surprising. I know he will be a phenomenal Bachelor.”

The news that the ‘Badge’ would be the star of the upcoming season drew massive publicity for the network, which isn’t a huge surprise given the rugby star’s cult-like following.

While Cummins’ achievements on the field with the Western Force, the Wallabies and the Australian Sevens team has earned him recognition in the sporting world, it’s the curly-haired winger’s iconic off-field personality that has thrust him into the mainstream.

Sporting a broad Aussie accent, laid-back attitude and distinct turn of phrase, Cummins is likely to provide a much-needed boost to Network Ten’s ratings in what is shaping up to be a thoroughly entertaining season of The Bachelor Australia.

Oh, and if you’re wondering where his iconic nickname came from: the 30-year-old earned the moniker after watching a documentary and becoming fond of the creature’s notoriously ferocious nature.

Will Cummins be charmed by looks alone, or will he simply pick the most fair dinkum sheila of the bunch? We can only wait and see.
