Terrible plaque honouring American soccer champ looks like Gary Busey

Gary Busey isn’t an unattractive guy, but when a plaque is unveiled in your honour, the last thing you want is to see Busey’s face staring back at you.

The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame (BASHOF) took some heat late last month when they presented retired U.S. soccer champ Brandi Chastain with a plaque.

The main trouble is that the plaque looks more like it’s dedicated to the Lethal Weapon actor.

See for yourselves…

Yeah, that’s a bit embarrassing.

For reference, here is what Brandi Chastain looked like when she graciously stood next to the monstrosity. She really perfected that gritted-teeth smile, didn’t she?

Unfortunately, as the BASHOF presentation is such a big deal, word got out about the plaque and social media went into overdrive with some of the funniest responses I’ve ever seen… to a Gary Busey lookalike plaque anyway.

Oh, and some people didn’t get the Gary Busey resemblance and went a whole different route. Brace yourselves, people.

Brandi is a good sport though. When asked about the plaque, the soccer player said, “It’s not the most flattering. But it’s nice.”

According to Sports Illustrated, the Hall of Fame President Kevin O’Brien offered to get another plaque made in place of the Gary Busey model and Chastain has agreed on a new one… phew!
