Nasya Modi was just shy of winning the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the US when she received an absolute corker of a word to spell.
Modi was the runner-up after misplacing a single ‘s’ in the most ludicrous word we’ve ever seen. 14-year-old Karthik Nemmani then correctly spelled “koinonia” to take out the spelling bee, making him the 14th consecutive Indian-American to win.
To young Modi’s credit, she handled the word with class and composure, taking all the time she needed while seemingly unphased by the German word. But the moment she put a letter wrong, Nemmani shook his head, knowing exactly where she went wrong.
