This ice cream is so spicy you have to sign a waiver before tasting it

Valentine’s Day is coming up, which means men worldwide are going into full panic mode as they try to come up with ways to wow their partners.

But it looks like men in Glasgow, Scotland have nothing to worry about, at least when it comes time for V-Day dessert.

Yup, me laddies, The Aldwych Café and Ice Cream Parlor has got you covered. As reported in Atlas Obscura, The Aldwych Café has released a new pink icecream called Respiro del Diavolo, which means “Devil’s Breath”.

What makes this ice cream special are its ingredients. Made with a secret mix of hot chillies, Respiro del Diavolo contains the Carolina Reaper, the now-famous chilli that you may have seen bozos on YouTube try to eat.

To get an idea of just how hot the Carolina Reaper is, we can turn to the Scoville scale, a measurement of capsaicin concentration (the thing that makes chillies F’n hot).

Tabasco sauce has a Scoville score of about 2,000 and your average, run-of-the-mill jalapeno is around the 2,500-5,000 zone. A Carolina Reaper – the hottest pepper on Earth – score at least 1.1 million and as high as 2.2 million.

The café is a family business and the owners claim that the recipe comes from Italy.

“There was a place called Devils Bridge and with that, the Italian ice cream families used to meet up once a year and discuss how the year went for them,” Lee Bandoni, brother of the café’s owner told The Evening Times.

“At that point, if there were any men that showed bravery then they would eat this ice cream. So, because of the Devils Bridge, they called this the Breath of the Devil.”

The brothers also added that chilli is an aphrodisiac, so it may help out in other departments (wink, wink).

Respiro del Diavolo is so spicy that The Aldwych Café requires people who eat the ice cream to be over 18 and to sign a waiver that releases the café from any legal ramifications of “personal injury, illness” or, best of all, “possible loss of life”.

Well done to everyone who has managed to enjoy our Respiro Del Diavolo Ice Cream today. At 1,569,300 SHU it's so hot we…

This is not really an exaggeration. In 2016, a 47-year-old man in San Franciso ended up spending 23 days in hospital with a 2.5cm rupture in his oesophagus after taking part in a ghost pepper eating competition.

Just think of all that extra time you will be able to spend with your date as you nurse them back to health in the local hospital. Now that’s true love.
