The most exciting details about Apple’s new “iPhone X” leaked

Apple has suffered a leak regarding details of its upcoming new iPhones.

On Friday night, 9 to 5 Mac received iOS 11 GM (Gold Master), the final version of iOS 11.

The leak has revealed a number of new features and hardware that will be formally announced on Tuesday.

Apple is known for its extreme secrecy, but in early August it seemed to have played itself when it accidentally released the firmware for the HomePod.

But the word on the street is that this new leak was no accident.

“I’m nearly certain this wasn’t a mistake, but rather a deliberate malicious act by a rogue Apple employee,” wrote Apple blogger John Gruber. “Whoever did this is the least popular person in Cupertino. More surprises were spoiled by this leak than any leak in Apple history.”

Developer Steve Troughton-Smith, who you may remember as the guy who dug through the HomePod code, went at it again with iOS 11 GM.

Here’s a summary of the findings:

  • It looks like there will be three phones: iPhone 8, iPhone 8+ and iPhone X
  • New wallpapers
  • An LTE Apple Watch
  • Portrait Lighting, a new feature that enhances the iPhone 7’s Portrait Mode
  • Smoother 4K video recording
  • Face ID, your face will unlock the phone
  • The new screen we saw in the HomePod leak (bezel-less and all screen with no home button)
  • New emojis
  • New AirPods
  • iPhone X will probably support wireless charging

Apple’s iPhone event will take place in the new Steve Jobs Theater on September 12th at 10am Pacific Time. (Wednesday, 13th September 3am AEST). It will the first event to be held in the newly built Apple Park.
