What’s driving this young Aussie to leave Earth forever and live on Mars?

Mars is a long way from Earth. 56 million kilometres, in fact.

Josh Richards is part of the Mars One team gearing up to become the first four settlers of the Red Planet.

Although it’s an incredible journey, we couldn’t help but ask Josh what’s spurring him to leave Earth.

There are a few motivators for him, the biggest that he aspires to understand life beyond our current human experience.

At the age of seven, Josh was inspired by Australian astronaut Andy Thomas, who was selected for NASA’s 1992 Astronaut Corp. This huge adventure will inspire a new generation of children to dream big.
