Game of Thrones dropped a HUGE freaking bombshell yet again and you probably missed it

*SPOILER ALERT* If you haven’t seen the latest Game of Thrones episode you probably want to do a little U-turn cos we’re about to drop some serious bombs.

Did you notice it?

When Gilly and Sam were having a bitch about the records Archmaester Ebrose made him transcribe, Gilly snuck in what could easily be the biggest reveal of the show so far.

Gilly: “What does ‘annulment’ mean?”
Sam: “It’s when a man sets aside his lawful wife.”
Gilly: “[High Septon] Maynard says here that he issued an annulment for a Prince ‘Ragger’ and remarried him to someone else at the same time in a secret ceremony in Dorne. Is that a common thing in the south, or—”

In short, Gilly just revealed that Jon Snow’s real dad Rhegar Targaryen had his marriage with Elia Martell annulled.

WHICH MEANS Lyanna Stark (Jon’s mum) and Rhegar were married when she had Jon.

WHICH MEANS that Jon probably has a more rightful claim to the Iron Throne than Daenarys because

A) He’s a true-born Targaryen (not a bastard like we thought)
B) He’s a dude and follows the male lineage, unlike Daenarys (and in the Game of Thrones universe, dude > chick).

Only problem is that Sam cut Gilly off just as she was getting to the juicy bits and then gave the book to the stupid kid, so now we’re gonna have to wait for this narrative thread to rear its head some time in the next season-and-a-half.

Twitter had some feelings:

And so what it could it mean? Well, a lot of things.

It could mean Jon loses his crown as King in the North because the Northern lords think he’s a bastard Stark and would be fuming if they found out he was a Targaryen.

Plus it would make things super awkward between Daenerys and Jon.

Man oh man, this season is just the best.
