Redditor who created THAT Trump vs CNN video apologises and deletes his account

HanAssholeSolo is no more.

That was the username of the Redditor behind a controversial video that U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted.

The whole thing was already strange enough, but in an unexpected turn HanAssholeSolo has issued a sincere-looking apology and deleted his account.

In the apology, which was issued in the last Reddit post from that account, HanAssholeSolo claims not to be racist, bigoted or anti-Semitic in real life.

Like many other trolls, HanAssholeSolo claims it was all for the lulz. According to HanAssholeSolo trolling is addictive, and it is tempting to post increasingly shocking things.

The user concludes by apologising to everyone and calling on others to stop trolling.

In case you somehow missed it, on Sunday Trump tweeted a doctored video of his appearance at a WWE wrestling even in 2007.

In the video, Vince McMahon’s head was replaced by the CNN logo and Trump punches it repeatedly. Classy.

It didn’t take long for media outlets, politicians and pundits to pounce on the tweet, calling it “unpresidential” and “encouraging of violence”.

Not long after, internet detectives traced the origin of the video to r/The_Donald, a pro-Trump and alt-right leaning subreddit. The video was posted there on June 29th, where it became the top post for that day, with almost 9,000 upvotes.

From there it somehow got into Trump’s tiny hands. It could have been an aide that showed him or the president might’ve found it himself. After all, when Trump did his Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Reddit last August, he did on r/The_Donald rather than in the usual AMA subreddit. It isn’t outside the realm of possibility that Trump frequents r/The_Donald.

At first, HanAssholeSolo seemed thrilled with his efforts, saying on Reddit (in a now-deleted comment):

Holy shit!! I wake up and have my morning coffee and who retweets my shitpost but the MAGA EMPORER himself!!! I am honored!!

After the video was traced back to HanAssholeSolo, people naturally became curious about the user’s history. Unsurprisingly, they found that HanAssholeSolo not only frequented r/The_Donald, but also another controversial subreddit called /r/ImGoingToHellForThis. Neither of these subreddits are nice places.

Here are some of HanAssholeSolo’s (now deleted) other posts:

Regardless of what you think about HanAssholeSolo, it’s genuinely disturbing that Trump or his staff are spending any time at all on r/The_Donald.

Although it began as a place to follow news about Trump’s run for president, it quickly descended into a chaotic melting pot of memes, misogyny, racism, homophobia and Islamophobia – all topics favoured by the extreme alt-right.

“Retweets do not equal endorsements” is a common refrain on Twitter. That may be true, but something is seriously wrong when the U.S. President is retweeting white supremacists or alt-right trolls who have escaped their caves for a brief moment in the sun.

What should (but won’t) happen is this: Everyone should unfollow Trump on Twitter and we should stop writing about him.

We’d all miss it because Trump is an easy target for jokes but, he was “elected”, so we’ll be forced to continue to read, write and talk about Trump and wait for the next outrageous thing. But in doing so we are all ignoring the number one rule about dealing with trolls (and Gremlins).

Never, ever feed them (after midnight).
