The Twitter battle continues: Donald Trump trolls Rosie O’Donnell

History is littered with great fights.

In boxing, there was Ali vs Frazier (1971). In MMA, Rua vs Henderson (2011). In pop, Lil Kim vs Nicki Minaj (2011-the present).

But in the legendary arena of Twitter, one of the greatest fights of all time is between U.S. President Donald Trump and comedian and TV personality Rosie O’Donnell.

On Thursday afternoon, Trump used the method of trawling someone’s Twitter history – a method that has been used against him – to do some good old fashioned trolling.

After Trump’s poorly-explained dismissal of FBI Director James Comey – who has been investigating Trump’s ties to Russia- Trump retweeted an old “FIRE COMEY” O’Donnell tweet.

But context is everything.

O’Donnell originally tweeted this in December 2016 in criticism of Comey’s actions during the election. O’Donnell had supported Hillary Clinton’s run for president and it is thought that Comey’s probe into Clinton’s emails massively hurt her chances of winning.

Well, played Trump. Is it good that the leader of the free world is Class A troll?

O’Donnell has since replied, calling Trump a “sadistic man”.

Unlike fistfights, which are generally over within an hour, the Trump v O’Donnell battle has been raging since 2006, beginning when O’Donnell roasted Trump on “The View” for his handling of the Miss U.S.A. pageant.

Trump responded with what can only be described as pure vitriol, calling her “disgusting” and threatening to sue.

If that wasn’t enough, Trump also mentioned O’Donnell during the presidential debates. When Megyn Kelly asked Trump about calling women “fat pigs”, “dogs” or “disgusting animals”, his reply was “only Rosie O’Donnell”.

Of course, O’Donnell has also tweeted her fair share of attacks and comebacks over the years:

Even Hillary tweeted about the saga:

According to The Washington Post, it is likely that Trump or someone on his staff saw the “FIRE COMEY” tweet via r/The_Donald, a popular subreddit that supports Trump.

I’ve spent some time on r/The_Donald – I frequent it out of morbid curiosity – and it’s a pretty scary place. If the Trump administration is taking cues from its own rabid fanbase, it’s going to be a long, long 3+ years.
