An unemployed battler just won the $50mil lottery, has incredible plans for the cash

Now here’s a story that will frustrate and inspire you.

An unemployed Western Sydney resident has picked up a cool $50 million cash after being the sole division one winner in Thursday night’s Powerball lottery.

Any Powerball punters out there will be absolutely FUMING because this was literally the first time the man had ever bought a ticket.

Thankfully, the story behind it is genuinely heartwarming.

The man, who is keeping his identity anonymous (smart), told the Sydney Morning Herald that he had recently fallen on hard times.

He was laid off at the end of last year and still hadn’t been able to find a job. He actually said he was sitting discussing his increasingly dubious future with his wife when he got the call from Lotto.

“We were just sitting discussing what to do with our lives next – what to do with our future. It’s just a blessing I would say,” he said.

The man, who might I add seems like a bit of a legend, thought someone was taking the piss when he got the call.

“No. No. No. Don’t tell me that. Are you serious man? I’ll probably faint,” he said, according to NSW Lotteries.

“I don’t know what to do. What should I do now? Should I call my mum? Should I hug my wife? What do I do?”

“I don’t even know how many zeros are in $50 million!”

He’s only had one night to think about what he wants to do with the money, but his initial plans are pretty incredible.

He said he “genuinely wants to help people” and after sharing some with family and friends wants to open a restaurant for the disadvantaged.

“I want to open a restaurant – that’s my passion – and give 50 per cent of the food away for free to people who need it. I don’t need profits, but there are homeless, students who are struggling, and people in need,” he said.

What a ripper idea.

While it’s great when people donate some of their winnings, this bloke’s idea to create an institution that can continue to help people in the long-term is really special.

Well done, mate.
