Disney leaks hugely important first clip from Star Wars: The Last Jedi

On Wednesday, Disney shareholders got a sneak peak at footage from the upcoming Star Wars movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Sucks to be us, since we aren’t major Disney shareholders.

Luckily Daniel Miller, a reporter for the Los Angeles Times, was also present at the meeting. He spilled the beans on Luke Skywalker’s first words in the film, along with a few other tidbits.

Unsurprisingly, Miller wasn’t allowed to take pics or video, but he did remember some details, which he shared on Twitter.

Apparently, prior to the screening Disney CEO Bob Iger took the opportunity to troll his audience. The footage began with Rey handing Luke the lightsaber and then the screen cutting to black. Well played, Bob!

After Iger had his lulz, real footage was finally screened. Here’s what we know:

So there you have it. Luke’s first words onscreen since 1983’s Return of the Jedi are “Who are you?”. It’s a fair enough question really, considering that a young lady has just crashed his lush island hideout, totally unannounced.

The Last Jedi is scheduled for release in Australia on December 15th.

It will be the eighth of nine planned “saga” films that tell the main story of the Skywalker family. In addition to these films, Disney has already released a spin-off, Rogue One. This will be followed by a spin-off centred on Han Solo. There is also rumour that a film about fan-favorite baddie Boba Fett is in the works.

The first official trailer for The Last Jedi is expected to drop in April during the annual “Star Wars Celebration”.

Meanwhile, someone just couldn’t wait and uploaded a very obviously fan-made trailer to an unverified Star Wars Facebook page. They even used footage of Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, from another movie.

A+ for effort.
