Louis Theroux’s got a new documentary, and it’s the one he was born to make

Louis Theroux vs Donald Trump. The game has changed.

Louis Theroux is fresh off his first ever full-length feature film, My Scientology Movie, and he’s got his eyes set on one of the biggest targets in the world.

The new President of the United States is receiving 24/7 coverage across the globe, but there’s been one piece missing from the puzzle – and that’s the probing questioning of Theroux.

Nobody in the world is better able to get controversial and hostile characters to drop their guard than the pasty British film-maker. His ability to shine a whole new light on red-hot issues is utterly fascinating and unmatched.

So the announcement that he’s setting his sights on the most polarising figure of our generation is absolutely bloody thrilling.

Where does the typically mild-mannered Theroux stand on Trump?

Well, he told ABC last year that he had a good chance of winning (he was right!), but said that eventuality would be tragic (he was right!).

All the information we know at the moment is that it will be shot as a three-part series in the US.

Speaking to The Mirror in the UK, he said:

“It feels like a whole cultural, almost sea change in how the world is part of the post- Brexit wave of populism.

“The story seems to change every day with Trump. There’s something new bubbling under. It’s hard to get your head around such a big subject.”

“The challenge with Trump would be… something so abhorrent that walks on two legs and is a human being, you have to explore where his foibles come from.”

It’s initially going to be aired on BBC2, but that’s about all we know at the moment – no word yet on who his subjects will be.

In the meantime, treat yourself to a bunch of Louis’ best bits:
