Yeah, so Obama’s former photographer is trolling Trump on Instagram

Pete Souza, the official photographer of former President Barack Obama, has created a new Insta account.

He isn’t filling it with pics of food or his dog though. He’s using it in what looks like an attempt to beautifully troll the new head honcho, Donald Trump.

Souza spent eight years following Obama and in that time he captured a variety of intimate moments between the former President, and a host of other folks: the general public, his staffers and other world leaders.

On January 21st, Souza generously decided it was time to share some of these snaps with the world and created his personal @petesouza Instagram account. Since then he has picked up more than 800,000 followers. And now he is using his Insta for one of its true purposes – to throw some serious shade.

The formula goes like this: Trump does something controversial or dumb (or both) and then Souza posts an image which juxtaposes just how different Obama was.

Like any great troll, Souza began subtly – posting a pic of Obama sitting on his desk in the Oval Office was the caption “I like these drapes better than the new ones. Don’t you think?” Drapes…yeah, right. Wink, wink.

I like these drapes better than the new ones. Don't you think?

Things escalated later in the month after Trump signed the now-infamous executive order banning nationals of seven countries from entering the U.S. On the same day, Souza shared this:

Syria is one of the seven countries on the ban list. Souza also decided it was a good time to share this pic of Obama chatting with a boy who offered his home to a Syrian refugee child. Trump has also temporarily banned all refugees from entering the U.S. Nuff said.

On Feburary 1st, Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court so Souza reposted this pic of Obama and Biden chilling with Merrick Garland, who was Obama’s pick for the job.

Merrick Garland. Just saying.

On the same day, Trump reportedly had a rather heated phone call with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto. In the past, Nieto has also made it very, very clear that his country will not pay for Trump’s wall. And oh look, here’s Nieto and Obama enjoying some fine tequila:

This one should need no introduction. On February 2nd, Trump reportedly had a disastrous chat with Aussie Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Two days later, Souza shared this shot of Obama, former Kiwi Prime Minister John Key and Turnbull having a good old laugh. No worries here, mates!

On Sunday, The New York Times reported that Trump’s meetings were being held in the dark because the new White House couldn’t find the light switches. Souza shared this. Brilliant!

Those damn lights 😉

Finally, we all know about Trump’s dubious views on women. His “locker room talk” was a symptom of deep-rooted sexism and there is a scarcity of women in his cabinet. This is what a meeting with Obama’s top advisors looked like:

That’s all for now, but there will no doubt be more.

The Trump Train has no brakes, so it’s hard to imagine Souza running out of material anytime soon.

Follow his Insta if you are looking for a subtle critique of the Trump presidency.

He’s got a real eye for it.

This is lovely, a gentle reminder of the style and class of the previous administration, standing in complete contrast to the nightmarish present. Like night and day…..
