Have you been dreaming of self-lacing sneakers since you saw Back to the Future II? Rest easy – Nike just made the official announcement that they’re on the way in 2015, power laces included. In 2011, Nike auctioned off a limited run of the Nike MAG – aka the Marty McFly shoe – on eBay, with all proceeds to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
There were only 1500 pairs of these LED-paneled, contour-designed, glowing Back to the Future shoes released, but they were missing a key film feature: the power laces.
Legendary shoe designer Tinker Hatfield has hinted at the 2015 release before, but you can now get your hopes up – below are some designs from the new Nike MAG’s official US patent papers.
